This webquest is written for ‘Vakdidactiek 3b: Making Materials’, a course at ‘Hogeschool van Utrecht’, ‘faculteit educatieve opleidingen’; a teacher trainee college.
In this webquest the pupils will put together a video clip of a part of Shakespeare’s ‘a Midsummer Night’s Dream’. They will do this in groups of four. They will have to use the internet for this assignment.
Before doing this webquest, you might show a video of ‘A midsummer night’s dream or read a summary about the play in class to give the pupils a general idea of the story.
In this webquest pupils will deal with Shakespeare’s play “a Midsummer Night’s Dream”.They will have to orientate on the play and they will learn how to divide different tasks among the members of the group they’re in.
It is important to mention that they have to hand in a short evaluation of the group work (individual tasks, how much time did you spend on your tasks and motivation of the choices you've made in this webquest.)
Their final product will be a video-clip in which the play is shown.
It is important that the introduction is presented in a ‘lively’ way, because one important goal is to make pupils enthusiastic about this play. They are going to experience that Shakespeare is not at all boring, but recognizable in their daily lives.
The role of the teacher is passive (checking on the progress), but the pupils can ask him/ her for advice if needed.
Introduction
Groups of 4 are formed.
Clear dividing of tasks written out on paper (who’s doing what?).
Orientation on the play using a summary (internet).
Pupils retell and discuss the play in their groups.
Every pupil will use the internet for a part addressed to him/ her.
All parts come together and pupils start working on their video-clip.
Final product is handed in, and can be shown in class.
The pupils need access to the internet, and they have to be able to print sites, documents, etc. They also need a number of disks to save documents they made.
In order to create nice costumes and props they need to have access to a (class) room, where materials are provided.
Pupils are given a number of links in order to find suitable material for making the costumes and finding the right music, but they are free to use search engines like “Google” or “Ilse” etc. (which is not clearly stated in the webquest itself!)
